Matthew is a VP Analyst at Gartner, serving as a strategic advisor to CFOs, FP&A leaders, and finance transformation executives. With a passion for rewiring how organizations forecast, Matthew helps enterprise leaders navigate technology-enabled transformation and connect digital capabilities to measurable business outcomes. He engages with hundreds of organizations annually—ranging from mid-market companies to enterprises with over $100B in revenue, non-profit, and public institutions—to optimize their financial planning software, data architectures, and analytics strategies.
His current research agenda explores the shift toward the "AI-First Finance Function" through the design of a modern forecast system. Matthew equips finance leaders to transition from rigid, legacy planning cycles to agile, AI-enabled enterprise simulations. By addressing critical topics like driver-based forecasting, AI governance, dynamic scenario modeling, and FP&A data architectures, he helps CFOs turn AI into a force multiplier that builds enterprise resilience and drives confident decision-making.
A prolific author and cross-Gartner collaborator, Matthew’s recently published research includes "CFO Considerations for AI-Enabled Forecasting", "Unlock Driver-Based Forecasting Through Better Data Provisioning", and "Integrated Data Flows: The Catalyst for Next-Gen Finance Decision Support".
Before joining Gartner, Matthew spent over 20 years as a practitioner in FP&A, accounting, and business intelligence, which included overseeing finance and analytics for a business unit managing $3B in contract value. This extensive hands-on experience acting as the "CFO's right hand"—developing forecasting methodologies and administering planning systems—gives him a deeply practical perspective. He brings this practitioner’s mindset to every client interaction, recognizing that successful transformation only happens when people, processes, and technology move together.
